From Vision to Impact
The global landscape is defined by travelers seeking immediate access to product and service information. To meet these evolving expectations, Total partnered with Web Geo Services to overhaul its digital presence, transforming a fragmented mapping strategy into a streamlined Web-to-Store engine. The core of this vision was to move away from managing over 1,000 individual maps toward a centralized, high-performance mapping module capable of serving 194 websites globally.
By leveraging the Google Maps JavaScript API, WGS ensured that the interface remained consistent and familiar for users across different languages and regions. To handle the massive scale of 200,000 points of sale, the project moved to a serverless architecture using Google App Engine and Google Cloud DataStore. This technical shift allowed Total’s Marketing Services department to offer a comprehensive "birds-eye view" of its international network for the first time. The result of this engineering effort is a fluid navigation experience that synchronizes real-time data across all devices, ensuring that customers can find the fuels and lubricants they need even when traveling across transnational borders.
